Pistol "MAG GUARD"
Written by: SWAT A4
Amplified Airsoft

Introduction:
Having lost multiple gas pistol mags at $35.00 a piece, I grew frustrated and joined the rest of the crowd; carrying my sidearm without a magazine in it. This basically rendered my pistol useless, being that the only time I would really need my pistol would be on a quick draw. There is nothing fast about drawing a pistol, having to accurately insert the magazine before firing. When I first heard about Mag Guard, I was ecstatic to see a product that fixed this all-too-common issue for only $10.00. Then I got upset and said "WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS FIRST?" Naturally I bought one right away.

About Mag Guard:
These past few weeks I've been in touch with the owner of MagGuard, Kevin. Many of you may know him as Chaseman on www.MichiganAirsoft.com. Chaseman made all the prototypes himself and a few of the originals. They are being manufactured in the USA! His son did all of the graphic art work and package design. Once the MagGuards are assembled, they are shipped back to Chaseman where there are then inspected and packaged individually.

Packaging:
I ordered mine directly from MagGuard, so your shipping package may differ if you buy it from a retailer. It could have easily been stuffed into a standard envelope, yet MagGuard was better and sent it in a nice brown shipping envelope. I ordered mine and had it in my hands 2 days later. It was shipped from Michigan, USA!!! The idea originated in the U.S., the first prototypes were made in the U.S., and the final product is still made in the U.S. Even the packaging is made right here in the states.

The packaging that the Mag Guard came in is very simple, yet professional. This way you're not paying up the ass for something you're just going to throw away. It gets the job done, and looks nice doing so.

The rear side of the packaging has the installation instructions. In all honesty, a blind folded monkey could install this in under 10 seconds, but it just makes it that-much-more fool proof.

Build Quality:
Moving on to the important stuff, you will find that the Mag Guard has a very simple design: a band of elastic and 2 velcro straps. The true beauty of the design is actually in it's durability, though. It was composed of elastic, which worried me at first. It was a little tight stretching this over the pistol grip for the first time and, not knowing, I was afraid that it was built cheap. I was instantly proved wrong as I stretched it and put it around the pistol. It gripped my sidearm very nicely, and seems to be secure.

Function:
Everyone's first concern is that this will make reloads very difficult and take a lot longer. The reloading might seem like a large chunk of time, but that isn't so. Players like keeping their $35.00 magazines more than they care about their reloads requiring more time.

You simply pull down on one end of the Velcro strap, and as simple as that, the mag comes sliding out!

Compatibility:
This product will fit the following guns: Glock, FN57, MK23, 1911, AEP (better when turned 90 degrees), Hi-capa, 9MM, 226, P99, and yes, EVEN the .50 DESERT EAGLE. One minor flaw in the MAG GUARD was that it holds down the 1911 grip safety. As I said, it's minor.

Honestly, I wasn't lying... It really does fit on the Desert Eagle without any problem.

Pros and Cons:
Pros
  • Low cost
  • Effective
  • Low profile
  • Keep your sidearms loaded for sure!
  • Never lose a mag again!

Cons
  • Covers custom grips (IF you have them)
  • Slightly slower reloads.

Summary:
Yeah, It's a long review for a cheap investment, just skip right to the summary did ya? Overall, the Mag Guard is a great investment at only $10.00. Even springer pistol mags cost more than that, so it's well worth spending the $10.00 to make sure you don't lose a mag. It's not fun drawing an unloaded sidearm, expecting it to be loaded. Not only are you upset you just missed that perfect chance, but now you're stuck looking for your expensive mag that's now conveniently hiding in the mud. I give MagGuard 2 thumbs up, and wonder why no one thought of this 10 years ago.

I'm good friends with the owner/inventor of the MagGuard, (Kevin, AKA Chaseman on MIA), he's a cool dude!

I ran a couple prototypes for him as a tester before he started mass producing them last year, and have been using them ever since. If you've lost mags before, I'd nab one or two, it's a handy tool.
